Music, man oh man where to begin:
What is music?
-mu·sic/ˈmyoozik/Noun
· The art or science of combining vocal or instrumental sounds (or both) to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion.
· an art of sound in time that expresses ideas and emotions in significant forms through the elements of rhythm, melody, harmony, and color.
-This is how it is defined according to an online dictionary (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/music). But what is music to you, and how would you define it?
MUSIC BREATHES LIFE! In my car I like to blast my music, and it varies from screamo to indie, from indie to worship and from worship to Cher. Music makes driving feel cooler and the car ride is faster. It widens my smile and brings back memories. That’s what music is.
Music helps worship become intimate and helps add passion to worship. God uses music to move and flow. His voice carries within the artist’s mouths and through the instruments that make beautiful sounds. Music is God’s gift to mankind.
WHAT IS ON YOUR SUMMER PLAYLIST? What kind of music gets you through the day? What genre makes you want to dance, laugh, cry , think or run. Sometimes, when I hear an upbeat techno song, for some odd reason, it makes me want to go work out. Screamo makes me feel cool and I feel like jamming out in front of a lot of people. It may sound silly but music is an essential part of life and it seriously can change people’s attitudes. Imagine life without it, then what would become of us?
A WORLD OF MUSIC. Music is also diverse like people are; it comes in different languages and with different backgrounds. It’s unhealthy to discriminate and to be prejudice against other people especially when God is unconditional love, so why discriminate against different types of music… For the summer I challenge you to be open to all types of music from all kinds of backgrounds. Listen to a genre that you never heard before or look up an international (or what Haley would say “exotic”) artist. At your summer bbq listen to some reggae. Or your trip to the lake or beach, jam out to some acoustic music. In your car try out some oldies. When you go for a walk listen to something in a different language.
Music plays an awesome and important role in everyone’s lives, for the most part. It adds an extra kick in our day, an extra walk in our step and a larger smile. Most importantly, we must recognize the intense role it plays during praise and worship. So what is music to you? How would you define it?
